Is there a way to restore the texture on Pastelbord?

Artist Question: Is there a way to restore the texture on Pastelbord? A student overworked an area that’s now too smooth to take more pastel, even after trying to lift pigment with a soft brush and kneaded eraser.

A: You can restore texture by applying a brush-on ground, like Golden’s Pastel Ground, to the affected area. While it won’t exactly match the Pastelbord surface, it will make the area workable again.

For removing pastel: use a white vinyl eraser for light marks. If the texture is filled, blot gently with a damp, lint-free cloth, turning to a clean area as you go. Rinse or replace the cloth as needed. This will lift most pigment and restore the surface’s tooth once dry.
