Introduction to Ampersand Hardbord
Hardbord is a raw wood panel without any adhesives or formaldehyde added to the wood fiber. It’s suitable for all acrylic gessos, specialty grounds, traditional gesso, or oil primers.

This extremely warp and moisture resistant panel is the base substrate for many of Ampersand’s ready to use primed panels.
Hardbord is made from wood fiber, so it’s important to seal it to block the tannin and lignin, as you would with any wooden panel.

Once sealed, Hardbord can be prepared with your ground of choice or used as a support to mount paper, photos, fabric, and prints. Hardbord's stability means your artwork will stand the test of time. It's the better panel to start with!
Hardbord is available in sizes ranging from 5x7 up to 36x48 inches and is offered as a 1/8" flat panel or as cradled panels with ¾", 1.5", and 2" depths.
